‘RACE’ UNITY

What is “‘Race’ Unity?”

Race Unity is the principle of promoting ethical relations between ‘racial’ groups in society – not only at the interpersonal level but also in society at large. Based on the fundamental equality of members of the human race, racial justice is seen as a major key to peace, prosperity, and unity. (Gregory P. Meyjes)

GPM has been pursuing race unity since the 1970s and promoting Race Unity Day since the 1980s. As of June 2019, JustCulture Consulting (JCC) has been doing likewise.

What is “Race Unity Day?” “Race Unity Day is intended as a celebration of the fundamental oneness of humankind. It is a call to people of all “races” to join forces to honor, promote, and share in that oneness. Originally called “Race Amity Day,” Race Unity Day has been observed annually around the globe on the second Sunday in June since 1957. The observance is intended for any person, group, institution, or society that supports the underlying equality of the human race and that wishes to advocate for the elimination of practices and prejudices that inhibit progress toward the establishment of a just, peaceful, and prosperous society.

“Race Amity” and the Banning of Books. In collaboration with the main branch of the Montgomery City-County Public Library System, JustCUlture Consulting is coordinating a monthlong display on the banning of books and race amity. Although JCC’s expertise is directed at systemic and collective progress — at the level of communities, neighborhoods, organizations, countries, regions, and worldwide – it supported the following local personal/interpersonal “race amity” effort this year, with the message of the following June 2023 display at Montgomery’s downtown public library, on the role of books (and the impact of banning them) on creating understanding between the races. “
